UNTOLD

WRITTEN & PERFORMED
BY GINA HUGHES

From the heart of abuse survivor Gina Hughes comes UNTOLD, a provocative one-woman show that's savagely honest, unabashedly sexy, often horrific, and thoroughly entertaining, all inspired by the tragic and sometimes triumphant stories of real women and their actual encounters with the sordid sides of love.
NOMINATED IN NEW YORK BY THE MIDTOWN INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL FOR BEST SOLO SHOW & BEST ACTRESS

INTERVIEWING VICTIMS: A MISSION

UNTOLD is based on anonymous interviews with victims of abuse. Its mission is to platform these voices, raise awareness about abuse and eloquently shatter the silence against it. The broken women who poured their hearts into the conversations that shaped this production are being fought for; the war on abuse, the war on silence, the war for awareness has been waged to a phenomenally powerful degree. The production has been performed in New York, California, Texas and Georgia.

FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT

"UNTOLD is a powerful, gripping product of my experience with rape and abuse. I am a survivor celebrating redemption with sass, honesty, humor and hard, rare realism. The women I portray are real and every story I share was shared personally with me.

These women are my heart. We are all a unique part of a shared, tragic experience, validated and comforted when we discuss our common ground and begin to realize we were never alone. I believe in acknowledging our experiences—together. It is empathy that most radically sets healing in motion.

I've carried these stories in my heart for over 8 years. UNTOLD continues to shape me as an artist, raise me as a woman and inform me as an advocate. There is brokenness that deserves to be seen and right now we live in a climate that refuses to see or believe the broken. UNTOLD changes that; it fixates on the overlooked and gives them a platform where they will not only be seen and believed, but celebrated, too.

I have no formal background as a playwright; what I have is relentless vulnerability and an ever-rising conviction to be a voice for those who have had their voices stolen."

"I loved this show so much. It was a little disturbing and at times I felt like it was intentionally drawing out moments to an uncomfortable degree, but it was all part of the flawless execution and moving performance by the actress."
